Do you leave a settling space over your windows and doors, and why if your logs are so dry?

Monday, July 30th, 2007

It is just an insurance policy. The trim hides it and it is insulated and flashed. so it is a good idea. Just in case, we also slot the window and door bucks. It’s better to be safe than sorry later.

Golden Eagle Log Homes Opens Its New Hands-On Training Facility

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

With the growing popularity of log homes, and a large interest from the building community looking to get involved, the demand for hands on training has increased. To address the increase in builder inquiries, Golden Eagle Log Homes announced the opening of their new builder training facilities at their company headquarters in Wisconsin Rapids, WI.

“We’ve been training about 200 builders per year. With this new training center we can double that, so our goal is to host at least 400 builders through our program this year,” said company co-owner Tod Parmeter.

Golden Eagle’s new training facility is a 2,060 square foot hands on facility. This allows the entire building to serve as a demonstration model where seminar participants can observe exterior construction details regardless of the weather. The classroom features “a lot of permanent built-in displays that show not only what we’ve been doing,” says Parmeter, “but it also details a lot of new ideas and directions that we’re exploring in our product line.” Other training aides include built-in video projection and internet connectivity.

The day-long seminars are offered once a month under the expertise of the instructor Bob Strosin, a 35-year veteran builder with literally hundreds of homes under his belt, including many of Golden Eagle’s log homes. “He’s the perfect man for the job. He relates to the audience, knows what he’s talking about, and can answer any question they ask because he’s done it,” says Parmeter.

The Golden Eagle Builder Seminar is offered free to builders, many of whom already have contracts to build for Golden Eagle home buyers. In fact, it’s not unusual for a foreman to go through the class and then send his crew members through one or two at a time. Says Parmeter, “Builders who come here will go over every detail of construction with us before they build. They always say it was worth it.”
